Overview of NCC (National Cadet Corps)

National Cadet Corps (NCC) is the military cadet corps of India that has its Headquarter at New Delhi. It was established in India during the year 1948 and since then, it remains open on voluntary basis for both college and school students of the country. NCC is a Tri-Service Group that comprises of Air Force, Army and Indian Navy involved in grooming of the country’s youth into patriotic, responsible and well-disciplined citizens. Hence, National Cadet Corps of our country acts as a voluntary organization that recruits cadets from Universities, colleges and schools from all over India and provides them basic military training courses in various parades and small arms. Students are called as cadets and allotted rank as per performance and merit. “B” certificate and “C” Certificate exam is held when the cadet enters second year and third year of the training.

Objectives of NCC (National Cadet Corps)

NCC works to fulfill the requirements expected in the latest socio-economic scenario in India:

  • Development of character, discipline, comradeship, secular outlook, ideals of selfless service, and adventure spirit among young citizens.
  • Creating a pool of trained, organized, and motivated youth with leadership qualities to serve the nation, irrespective of the career they choose.
  • Providing a sound environment conducive to motivating young people to join the armed forces.

Contribution of Shivalik College of Engineering in NCC Activity

NCC is part of our academic activities, shaping students from civilian backgrounds with military virtues like discipline, punctuality, and readiness to accept challenges. Shivalik College of Engineering is committed to developing students’ personalities by fostering a military environment, instilling confidence, and patriotic values. The college received the Best Active Performance Award from the former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Shri Trivendra Singh Rawat, on January 31, 2020, during the Republic Day Camp felicitation ceremony.

Procedure to Formulate NCC Unit in SCE

  • Follow common rules formulated by the Army/NCC headquarters/local NCC head office.
  • Internal rules and policies will be developed by the college’s highest authority and approved by the governing council.
  • A suitable faculty member will be selected to lead the NCC unit effectively, aligning with the institution’s objectives.

Conduction of NCC Meetings

  • Regular meetings involving the caretaker will be held.
  • Minutes of meetings will be prepared for record-keeping.

Conduction of NCC Activities

  • Informal meetings will be conducted in the NCC office before events.
  • Recruitment drives will be held as per the local NCC office’s directions.
  • Regular drills and physical fitness activities will be conducted as directed by the NCC headquarters or local office.
  • Schedules for drills will be decided with input from the head of the institution and council members.
  • Events will be conducted as per Army/NCC headquarters or local administration guidelines.
  • NCC camps will be organized once or twice a year, as per directives.
  • Event reports and photographs will be submitted post-completion.
  • An attendance register will be maintained for cadets by the caretaker.

Recruitment System

  • Selection of candidates (both boys and girls) will be conducted by the NCC caretaker with the management’s consent.
  • Written and physical fitness tests will be conducted as per NCC head office directions.

Reforming Objectives, Roles, and Responsibilities

Objectives, roles, and regulations may be revised based on requirements at any time.

Financial Aid

As the NCC unit operates under a self-finance scheme, all expenses will be borne by the college.
