VANET and Its Cloud-Based Approaches

Vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) have been studied intensively due to their wide variety of applications and services, such as passenger safety, enhanced traffic efficiency, and infotainment. With the evolution of technology and sudden growth in the number of smart vehicles, traditional VANETs face several technical challenges in deployment and management due to less flexibility, scalability, poor connectivity, and inadequate intelligence which has now led to an increase in Cloud computing is considered a way to satisfy these requirements in VANETs and also holds an upper hand in developing it as the demand for it rises and the application widens.

However, the next-generation VANETs will have special requirements of autonomous vehicles with high mobility, low latency, real-time applications in both domestic and other fields like private and military organizations, and connectivity, which may not be resolved by conventional cloud computing and others like it in comparison to high rising demands of VANET. So the merging of fog computing with the conventional cloud for VANETs is discussed as a potential solution for several issues in current and future VANETs and the improvements that are being made in this piece of tech can help the people in being more and more reliable and dependent on this technology and as a result, securing their work and data with VANET.

In addition, fog computing can be enhanced by integrating a Software-Defined Network (SDN), which provides flexibility, programmability, global knowledge of the network, and much more. Vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) have gained popularity in recent years. Traffic accidents, road congestion, fuel consumption, and environmental pollution due to a large number of vehicles have become serious global issues and this is just the beginning of the problems that the planet is truly on the brink of extinction or any other apocalypse to wipe out entre life from the earth. Traffic incidents are persistent problems in both developed and developing countries, which result in huge loss of life and property. To overcome these issues and make the journey safer, efficient, hassle-free, and entertaining, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) introduced VANETs to create a safer infrastructure for road transportation, VANETs are now used to focus more on road safety and efficient traffic management system for the convenience of public roads while offering comfort and entertainment for drivers and passengers throughout their journeys with the minimum traffic and inconvenience of any manner as possible.

These types of applications do not require high reliability and low latency, compared to the other safety applications that are there for getting and stopping different things from happening, and then they are ruled out so that these things can be avoided from happening again and again. In VANETs, some critical event information (e.g., accident reports) must be disseminated quickly and reliably. Even though VANETs are feasible for disseminating event information, it is still a challenge to disseminate critical messages timely and reliably to a targeted area under a dynamic vehicular environment. Even after such wide applications VANET and such technologies are not taught in most of the Engineering colleges or no such interaction of students with these game-changing technologies are organized by colleges, but that’s not the case with Shivalik College Dehradun, here the technologies that are launched in the market and that are acquiring the same are regularly taught to the students and their interests are inculcated in the growing changes of techniques and also the will tod develop it so that the students can after passing out make a successful career or an entrepreneur or whatever they wish with the right information and knowledge and the skillset.
